The final race of the Canadian leg of the Short Track Thunder Series was hosted by Capital City Speedway. This odd shaped circuit caught several drivers by surprise during practice. The pit wall juts out into the track going into turn one and stopped several competitors in their tracks. Capital City would see the return to the series of reigning champion Jeff Crivello and the first run for Alex McCollum. Windrow Motorsports Chad Barcomb would set fast time in qual. When the green flag dropped, Barcomb would lead lap one but no more as outside pole sitter Brian Schilling would clip the turn four wall on the first lap and bounce into Barcomb taking out the front row. Cori Bibbus would inherit the lead and hold it until pit stops at the halfway point. Series stewards were forced to throw a competition caution to reset the field early on follwing several high speed runs by the Pace Van driver. The RCMP were called in and the pace driver was arrested for DUI. Following a lead run by Michigan’s Ricky “Big Poop” LaDuke, ECT IROC would regain the lead and hold on to the end for his second win in a row and fifth overall. Scoring maximum points for the second week allowed him to jump both Kring and Schilling in the standings to regain the points lead. LaDuke would hold on for second and Danny “Seriously” Savory took the third podium position. The circus returns to the lower 48 next week as they head to the Michigan Gang’s home turf at Berlin Speedway. Come out and join us as the points battle continues to simmer.
