The Friday Night Cup series rolled into Thunder Valley, Bristol Motor Speedway for their second race in the new Gen-6 car, its first on a short-track. -ECT-TJ was the fastest in Final Practice and Happy Hour, but it was Dennie Danniels who took the pole with a lap of 129.256 mph on the Worlds Fastest Half-Mile.
The race got started and ran its first 27 laps caution-free. Afterwards, most of the 13 cautions that put the field behind the pace car took place in rapid succession. The race settled down, and the field got down to serious racing. With only around 23 laps to go, leader -ECT-TJ’s Chevy SS bottomed out and he spun, bringing out caution 11. The field took off only to have the 12th flag drop soon after. The green dropped for the last time on lap 170. But the 95 got loose on the restart, and the 10 got loose. The 54 attempted to get under the 10, but got a shove from behind, putting his right front into the 10, causing the catty-waumpus 10 to spin, and bringing out the 13th and final flag.
The race to the yellow saw the 14 of -ECT-BSchilling winning the sprint back with the 54 of ECT – DaBandit just behind him. The rest of the Top 5 were: Ken Hayes, Bruce DeMarco, and -ECT-TJ.
Next week the series will be in California at Auto Club Speedway before taking a week off for Easter.
