It was the R&B show Saturday night as the Midnight Thunder Series paid its visit to the 2-mile, flat, D-shaped oval in Southern Cali. All the prelims were topped by either someone who’s name started with an R or B. The pole went to Robert Baucom, who made his first appearance in the series, and posted a fast-lap of 187.603 mph. The field sailed it off into Turn one, and the race was on. Lap 9 seen the first of 13 cautions, with half the field not finishing the race do to wrecks or retirements. The average race speed was just over 115 mph, with the last yellow coming out with 4 laps to go. In the race back to the yellow and the win, the 18 of Baucom edged out the 14 of -ECT-BSchilling. The rest of the Top 5 were: J Crivello, OGR Ellie, and J Rubberduck. The first Top 5 for the “Duck.2”.
Five races into the season, -ECT-BSchilling holds a substancial lead over -ECT-Iroc. Next week the series takes off for the birthday of his son Cole, and Easter. The series returns to action in two weeks at Martinsville.
