The pack of drivers waiting for the gates to open at Atlanta was large, the largest non-plate track crowd to date. In the preliminaries, no one driver showed any signs of dominating the 1.5 mile quad-oval. Lin Voiles took the pole with a lap of 179.464 mph.
The green flag fell and 20 drivers sailed their rides into turn one. Lap 10 saw the first of 15 flags put the field behind the pace car. The races speed was dropped to 103.477 mph with the field spending 45 of 114 laps under caution. During the green flag segments, their was some great side-by-side racing, and a couple of awesome saves that didn’t cause any yellows. At the end of lap 114, it was a race back to the yellow and checkers as the number 60 of Ken Hayes edged out -ECT-REDCHEVY by .22 seconds. The end of the race was marred by a couple penalties related to the last yellow and restart.
The rest of the Top 5 were: -ECT-BSchilling, -ECT-TJ, and -ECT-Jim. The Warriors will take off a week for Easter, and will return to action on the 8th at Indy.
