Daytona International Speedway played host to Race 8 of the SS Thunder Series. Points leader (by 1), Chuck McClure, showed up ready to break the virtual tie with Bernie Mobbs. He would set fastest time in qualification to take the pole for the race. The buzz in the pits was that there might be some illegal horsepower under his hood. Thirty laps in the motor exploded causing a multi-car wreck and further speculation that the Hillbilly Racing motor might be suspect. Once track cleanup was complete, race officials went to impound the Scooby Doo Chevy only to find it had been loaded into it’s hauler and was headed back to West Virginia. The race would go green from there and at eighteen to go, final green flag stops began. B&B Racing had perfect stops and came out well in the lead but ECT Q had DaBandit, Timbo and Manny D on his tail. They quickly overtook DMAR and Freddo to form a six car pack and head off in search of the leaders. With twelve to go, Q ran them down and they fanned out three wide as Phalin went to the lead. Unfortunately The 54 car didn’t clear the 44 and another multi-car wreck ensued. With Bruce in first and Bernie in second, the field took the green flag with nine laps to go. With the sting of last weeks last lap loss to B&B Racing still fresh in his mind, ECT Q refused to get snookered again. With a good restart he was able to clear the Subway car and block his momentum. With Mobbs leading the outside line and Diaz leading the inside, Phalin put on an exhibition in mirror driving as he managed to fend off first one line then the other to steal his first points win of the season and along with it the bonus for most laps lead. With a last lap wreck the field would be shuffled and ECT Fredo would take third and ECT Bernie with his second place finish jumped Redchevy for the points lead. Next week the points war heads to Coca Cola Speedway. Join us for the fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
