The Short Track Thunder Pickups made their way to the Charlotte County Speedway for the first race of Season 7. Several teams hadn’t made it out of the swamp yet so they would miss the opener. Lake County Search & Rescue has mounted an effort to locate them, hopefully in time for next week. Newly crowned Champ, Cori Bibbus, started out strong with the pole position and backed it up with the most laps led bonus. Unfortunately he would get caught up in an on track melee. He would put on a driving exhibition working his way back to the front but only got back to third when the checkers flew. CT’s Chris Forster returned to STT after being gone for several years to battle with MI’s Ricky LaDuke from green to checkers. When the beating and banging was over, Forster was out front proving old age and treachory beats youth and exuberance. Week one and there is a tie for the points lead as Bibbus’ bonus points tied him with the win by Forster. Next week we’re at Orlando Speedbowl, hopefully the lost swamp boys can join us along with Mickey Mouse.
