The Lone Star State Host the Weekend Series’

Amid all the controversy, the Friday Night Cup Series and the Midnight Thunder Series, or the “Weekend Series'” made their way deep in the heart of Texas, to Texas Motor Speedway for their races bookending NASCAR’s NRA 500.
It was the Friday Nighters who got it all started off. And as has happened in a majority of the 7 races, winning the pole, bodes well during the race. Four times, the same driver swept the pole and the race, and in two of the others, he was runner up. So OGR Devon had to be happy when his fast lap of 196.958 mph put him on the pole. For the first time in series history, the race went caution free. So green flag pitstops helped seperate the field over the 117 laps. But it also led to only five drivers getting a chance to lead a lap, as history was a friend to Devon. He led 110 laps on his way to his first win of the season, to go along with his two poles. The rest of the Top 5 were: OGR Stanley, OGR Ellie, -ECT-BSchilling, and -ECT-FDIELSE95. Stanley gained the most positions on his way to runner-up, 11, while -ECT-TJ took the biggest drop, loosing 11 spots.
The Midnight Thunder Series had the tough goal of trying to match the previous nights cautionless race. During qualifying, Robert Baucom had to be happy. Not only did he take his second pole of the season with a lap at 195.794, Saturdays also favor the pole sitter come the race.
As the field took the green and sailed it into Turn one, you could see the field had a sense of calm as no one got too pushy in the early laps. The race didn’t go caution-free, but the yellow only came out seven times in the 151 lap race. The cautions also let 9 drivers get a chance to lead a lap, but it was Baucom who edged out runner-up -ECT-BSchilling by a lap who took the most laps led honors. It also turned out to be the way they would finish when the checkers flew after lap 151 was finished. The rest of the Top 5 were: OGR Ellie, -ECT-Spoiler41, and Ralph Howard. Newcomer, -ECT-Spoiler41 gained the most spots during the race at 7, and Fred Morrel lost 4 to take the opposite honors.
Both series will be in the Land of Blahhs and Dorothy…Kansas. For the first of two trips the series’ will take to Kansas Speedway in 2013.
